Default Ingame Freezes

i havent had any problems running gw on my computer ever. but after getting nightfall, it freezes nearly everytime whenever there are groups of mobs. the screen freezes but i can still hear the combat sound. when i alt tab to windows the graphics become messed up and have to restart. i've searched the forum, updated all my drivers defragged hd and reinstalled gw but nothing's working...vid card is running fine at 56C and this problem only seems to occur in gw. i see alot of ppl have different freezing/lag issues, just wondering if anyone have similar problems...

specs:
amd athlon 64 3000+
1g ram
eVGA 256-P2-N518 GeForce 7800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
EVGA 133-K8-NF41 Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

UPDATE:
just when i was about to say that updating bios worked, it happened again...but this time i couldnt alt tab out, screen just went black and no game sound effects just background music. however i noticed that it took longer this time for the game to freeze... starting to think its gw rather than comp causing the problem

I'm having the exact same problem too. And it only started when I started Nightfall. It's driving me bananas

My computers specs are the same as yours, I never had this problem before with prophesies or factions. I've tried everything you tried and still no better.

Please help anyone! Its getting to the point were I'm getting tired of playing GW.

ive went thru bouts with support on the subject only to get absolutely nowhere.

only thing i can tell ya sadly, is deal with it.

cause anet wont acknowledge it, and if they dont, it wont get fixed.

yeah im having same problem I am running a
pentium 4 cpu 3.00GHz
3.00GHz, 3.37 GB of Ram
ATI All In Wonder sound/video card

This system easily runs EQ2 and also ran EVE Online and WoW with absolutely NO problems (WoW and EVE have since been deleted) the only problems occure when Playing Nightfall it freezes/lags badly usually when im in a battle with more than 3 npc enemies.

btw i have defraged, reinstalled, used anti-spyware...nothing seems to have helped the situation

I just started getting this problem after i updated my sound drivers. I was using an old Sound Blaster Live! 24bit that I swapped some random crap for in 2002. Before updating the drivers it worked fine in my new comp, but since updating it my Guild Wars will randomly crash my graphics driver. Seems to happen when im in areas with more than 5 enemies. Some of you might say it's because the sound card is old but it's only a recent problem and only after i installed new drivers. I also exceed the specs for Guild Wars by far. I'm reinstalling the old driver today see if that does anything.

*Edited* Forgot my specs just to confirm

AMD 64x2 4200
2 Gb Corsair
512mb Ati 1600pro PCIE
Asus M2R32-MVP

I was having the same problem after I defraged my hard drive which was very strange. I ran crap cleaner (share ware) and it seemd to fix the game from locking up on me it may or may not work for you but worth the try.

Intel Pentium D EE CPU 3.73GHz
3 GIG Ram PC5300 DDR2
P5N32-SLI-Deluxe mother board (i'm using on board sound atm)
Dual NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX in SLI
AGEIA PhysX PCI Card

viper...I used CCleaner, followed the defraging instructions for the Gw.dat file here, defraged entire system...doen everythign i can think of except reformat the entire computer.

I am noticing something..all of us seem to have simular spec sound and graphics cards. The IT guy where my husband words said that the ATI and NVIDIA cards are very simular and that usually problems experienced by one are also experienced by the other. Unfortunately I have already been in contact wtih ATI bout the possible software conflict with Nightfall and the tech I talked with (
over a course of 4 days) said that he cannot find anything in the software or my computer setup that could be causing the problem and suspects it is a compatability conflict within the Nightfall programing itself. He said that if my system could support dual instances of EVE ONline (playing two accounts on same computer at same time) with little to no lag or graphics or sound problems..there is no reason it shouldnt run Nightfall...unless it is a progaming error within the game graphics engine itself. He recommended that we contact NCSoft/Anet online support as they be unaware of the issue

Did any of you try updating your BIOS yet? That could be it as well. I had some sound problems a few years ago, did a search, and found my exact problem could be solved by updating the BIOS for my motherboard.
